"MUMBAI: In one stroke, Optical disk manufacturer Moser Baer has destroyed the business model of pirated movie seller and even the DVD libraries across the country. Delhi based optical disk maker is going to launch Hindi movies on DVD at Rs 38 and VCD at Rs 24. The price of a Hindi DVD at the retail end varies from Rs 200 to Rs 400 and even higher if it's a new release. Moser Baer's comparable price is one tenth of the existing retail price for these disks. The MRPs for Moser Baer movies will be even lower than rentals from libraries or buying pirated DVDs or VCDs. Moser Baer has developed new technology to bring the price down for the Digital Video Discs (DVDs) and Video Compact DisksTheatre"

As if the movie watching experience wasn't shifting from the cinema hall to the living room quickly enough thanks to increasing piracy, now Moser Baer have come up with this.
If what MB claim is achieved, then at least the prices of PVR and I-nox should come down a bit.
This can change a lot of ways.
The whole distinguishing factor as to why the crowd in such multiplexes is so good at present is largely due to the prices as it kept the cheap junta out. The decreasing quality in scenery will in turn keep out a lot of people who flock to the malls just to exercise their eyes. Traffic might reduce a great deal, enabling more parking space making Bangalore a more pleasureable place to live in once again. This in turn will attract a lot more people from outside and voila !!! The people ready to spend now will increase as a result of which the economy of the state would go up in turn causing an infaltion in prices. Hence, MB may hike their prices with the theatres soon to follow. We come back to square 1.
So, it really doesn't change anything.

well okay.. i beg to differ with the conclusion. You see what happens is that when fewer and fewer people will flock to the malls.. the economy of the place will comedown. MAlls and other big shops run because people chumma come and spend money on all useless things that are sold there. Shoppers stop started this trend in india of displaying everything that they have... this made people buy stuf that they actually hadn't come to buy. So when the crowd in the mall comes down or is replaced by cheap crowd it will make the malls close down. This in turn will bring down the economy of the city and lesser people will come to the city. So over a period of time the population will decrese and the traffic will reduce which will enable our friend here to join back infy...lol.. so right you will beback to square one not the others....lol

yes. you are right as in blore will become like that of the old. and maybe i might join back Infy.
But B'lore's splendid weather and amicable living conditions will in turn bring more people to this city. Also, as the economy might deporve as a result of large scale retail industry going to the dogs, Mr. KS and his beloved Big Bald Papa may offer more incentives to the industries ready to set shop here. This would definitely attaract a lot more industries, not just the IT ones. Hence more influx into the city. Blore would be booming again and things will quite return to normal. So, I might quit again. As i say

One thing is for sure.. out beloved KS and his successors will definitely not be any better than those have preceeded him. So obviously once more people come in we will be back to the traffic jam situation and bangalore will be a wothless palce to stay..
SO basically it is a vicious circle.. just depends on which point of the corcl ethe city is in and are you lucky or unlucky to be living at that time????

well i suppose ppl would still go to the cinema to watch the super movies that need to be watched on big screens.
the actual number of regular cinema goers might reduce but big screens will definitely stick around..

Anyhow, if this is true and I have no reason to believe otherwise, it is a good thing..How can a product of good quality available at a cheaper price NOT be a good thing?
I know the freakonomics brand of economic theory is a rage, but linking any 2 unrelated economic activities is stretching things too far. If somebody buys from a mall, he/she buys for a sound financial reason, not "chumma" . Its prolly cheaper or not available elsewhere.

We have to thank the number of increase on piracy for the results it has given to Moser Baer. Another thing, most of the family now prefer to watch on their living room than to the cinema itself. It's more convenient and more great moments for the rest of the family.
